The utility of texture analysis to improve per-pixel classification for high to very high spatial resolution imagery

چکیده
Earth observation data are becoming available at increasingly finer resolutions. Sensors already in existence (IKONOS, Quickbird. SPOT 5. Orbview) or due to be launched in the near future will reach 1-5 tn resolution. These very high resolution (VHR) data will provide more details ofthe urban areas, but it seems evident that they will create additiotial problems in terms oi' infonnation extraction using automatic classification, ln this fi'amework. this paper examines the potential of the spectral/textural approach to improve the classification accuracy of intra-urban land eover types. The utility ofthe textura! analysis was measured in comparison with multi-speclral per-pixel classifications. Haralick's second-order statistics were applied to the co-occurrence matrix. Four texture indices with six window sizes created from panchromatic images were tested on images at high to very high re.solulions (10-1 m). The results show that the optimal index improving ihe global classification accuracy is the homogeneity measure, with ul xl window size. Moreover, for 1 m images. tcxUire measure of homogeneity allows one to decrease the shadows.

Object-Based Classification of UltraCamD Imagery for Identification of Tree Species in the Mixed Planted Forest
This study is a contribution to assess the high resolution digital aerial imagery for semi-automatic analysis of tree species identification. To maximize the benefit of such data, the object-based classification was conducted in a mixed forest plantation. Two subsets of an UltraCam D image were geometrically corrected using aero-triangulation method. Some appropriate transformations were perfor...

As the information carried in a high spatial resolution image is not represented by single pixels but by meaningful image objects, which include the association of multiple pixels and their mutual relations, the object based method has become one of the most commonly used strategies for the processing of high resolution imagery. This processing comprises two fundamental and critical steps towar...

Introduction: Having accurate and up-to-date information on the status of land use and land cover change is a key point to protecting natural resources, sustainable agriculture management and urban development. Preparing the land cover and land use maps with traditional methods is usually time and cost consuming. Nowadays satellite imagery provides the possibility to prepare these maps in less ...
متن کاملLand Cover Subpixel Change Detection using Hyperspectral Images Based on Spectral Unmixing and Post-processing
The earth is continually being influenced by some actions such as flood, tornado and human artificial activities. This process causes the changes in land cover type. Thus, for optimal management of the use of resources, it is necessary to be aware of these changes. Today’s remote sensing plays key role in geology and environmental monitoring by its high resolution, wide covering and low cost...
